Porsche Boxster - red

The Porsche Boxster is from the set 'Lane Change Challenge'. Concernig visual aspects the car is a real disappointment. The headlights are simple adhesive labels and beside two exterior mirrors there are no further details.

Head- and backlight are absent.

But this spartanic configuration makes sense. Bear in mind that there will be up to six cars on a two lane track. It's obvious that there will be a lot of crashes and fine details like rear wings, lights, wipers and others would not survive for long.

So watch how long the mirrors will outlive.

The car is fitted with the typical Scalextric magnet.

If you remove the magnet you should put some extra weight in the rear. The tends a little bit to fishtailing, but besides it lies well on the track.

The yellow Boxster is out of the same set as the red one.. Besides color and decals the cars are absolutely identical.

Audi TT - blue

The Audi was in a set with a SSD hand controller. Its appearance fits to the Boxster.

The exterior mirrors are the only details. The frontlights are adhesive labels.

But as mentioned above: the minimalism is appropriate. Thus the makes absolutely no qualms if the going gets tough.

Without the standard Scalextric magnet the car needs some extra weight in its rear. The car tends to fishtailing and the standard tyres were really crap. They had absolute no grip and even with weight above the rear axle the Audi couldn't get his power to the track. But with trued tyres the car runs really fine.

Porsche 911 GT3R 'Freisinger Motorsport' - Scalextric

The car is primary designed for analogue tracks and it is not even 'digital ready', how Scalextric calls their newer analogue models which are prepared for getting chipped. Nevertheless it's easy to fit a Retrofit-Chip in the car.

The car is equipped ex faxtory with a magnet, which is placed in front of the sidewinder motor. In this configuration the driving performance is outstanding and the handling is easy. Sharp tongues could call such a setup also boring. I enjoy driving without magnet too, so let's kick this magnet out and replace it with some extra weight.

For the use with the SSD the car has to be provided with a black guide instead of the blue one. The blue guides are invisible to the photo sensors in the SSD. But happily Scalextric supplies several of these black guides with each retrofit chip. Newer models are equipped with black guides ex factory.

With some extra weight at the right places (mainly around the guide to asure that it keeps safely in the slot) and maybe some tyre truing the driving performance is real fun. The car is gentle and its drifts are always controlable.

Also this analogue model from 2003 is not prepared ex factory to get equipped with a SSD chip. Anyway it could be chipped very easily.

Like the Porsche GT3R Scalextric has equipped the Ford GT40 with a magnet in front of the sidewinder motor. The performance is typical for magnet driving - easy handling, reliable driving, absolutely boring. It's more like controlling a model railway than a slotcar. So I strongly recommend to substitute the magnet with some weights.

The driving performance is realy good, but it can't quite meet the high expectations. On my analogue Märklin Sprint track the Ford GT40 is the benchmark for most of the other cars. On the SSD track there are faster cars.

The short wheelbase, which is a real advantage on the tight bends of my Märklin track, loses its importance on the SSD track.

Cars with a longer wheelbase, like the Porsche GT3R or the Scalextric DTM models, allow more fluent drifts.
